Aging Incheon Namdong Industrial Complex... Transformed into a Beautiful Space Shining Even at Night
Environmental Improvement of Seunggi Stream Pedestrian Bridge Including Installation of Landscape Lighting and Media Facade
The aging Namdong National Industrial Complex in Incheon has been transformed into a beautiful space that shines even at night.
On the 31st, Incheon City announced the completion of the Seunggi Stream pedestrian bridge environment improvement project within the Namdong Industrial Complex, carried out as part of the 'Industrial Space Value Re-creation Project.'
The city applied floor pattern designs themed around day and night to the aging bridge walkway, corrected the colors of the bridge railings and main tower structures, and installed landscape lighting and media facades, creating a space in Namdong Industrial Complex that shines even at night.
The Namdong Industrial Complex was developed between 1985 and 1997 to provide factory sites for small and medium-sized enterprises relocating within the metropolitan area, and as of the end of last year, more than 6,000 companies have settled there. Through this project, the city expects to shed the image of an aging industrial complex and also resolve the issue of disconnection between residential areas and the industrial complex.

Incheon’s industrial complexes have played a central role in the regional economy for the past 50 years, leading industrialization and national economic growth, accounting for 65.8% of Incheon’s total manufacturing output and 61.1% of employment.
However, recently, the industrial complexes have faced the "three olds" phenomenon?aging industrial facilities, infrastructure, and workforce?along with industrial hollowing out and worsening employment quality due to the small scale of enterprises. This has led to the spread of a negative image of the complexes and a reluctance among young workers to seek employment there.
To address these issues, the city is promoting the Industrial Space Value Re-creation Project to expand the function of industrial shared spaces by utilizing the unique assets and values of the industrial complexes, revitalizing them into attractive spaces where people want to see, enjoy, and work.
