Seoul Donghaeng Bus Expands by 4 Routes... 4 Additional Routes in Gyeonggi South and North
Some Routes Accept 'Gihudonghaeng Card' Usage
Seoul City announced on the 31st that it will expand the operation of the ‘Seoul Donghaeng Bus’ to a total of six routes by adding four new routes starting from the 6th of next month. In particular, the plan is to diversify the operation areas by broadly covering the metropolitan area from southern Gyeonggi to northern Gyeonggi.
Since August 21st, Seoul City has been operating the Seoul Donghaeng Bus on two routes: Hwaseong Dongtan to Gangnam Station and Gimpo Pungmu to Gimpo Airport Station. The Seoul Donghaeng Bus surpassed 10,000 passengers within just two months of operation.
Before expanding the operation, Seoul City conducted a demand survey targeting 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province to find new demand areas for the Seoul Donghaeng Bus. To avoid concentration in specific areas of the metropolitan region and ensure diverse distribution by district, four areas were selected: ▲Paju City Unjeong District ▲Goyang City Wonheung District ▲Yangju City Okjeong District ▲Gwangju City Neungpyeong-dong.
First, ‘Seoul Route 03’ is a route that starts from Paju City Unjeong District, passes through Hapjeong Station in Seoul, and operates up to Hongdae Entrance Station. Paju citizens using the Seoul Donghaeng Bus will be able to conveniently transfer to Seoul’s entire area via Line 2, Line 6, Airport Railroad, and Gyeongui-Jungang Line. ‘Seoul Route 04’ starts from Goyang City Wonheung District, passes Hwajeon Station (near Korea Aerospace University East Gate) and Goyang City Deogeun District, crosses the Gayang Bridge, and operates up to Gayang Station in Seoul, making access to Magok District and Yeouido Station more convenient for Goyang citizens.
‘Seoul Route 05’ starts from Yangju City Okjeong District and operates up to Dobongsan Station in Seoul, which is expected to make access to Line 1 and Line 7 and transfers to other Seoul City buses more convenient for Yangju citizens. ‘Seoul Route 06’ starts from Gwangju City Neungpyeong-dong and operates up to Gangnam Station in Seoul. To avoid worsening congestion on Gangnam-daero, it will enter Gangnam-daero from Yangjae IC on the Gyeongbu Expressway, similar to Seoul Route 01 (Hwaseong Dongtan to Gangnam Station), and operate in the order of Yangjae Station and Gangnam Station.
The four additional Seoul Donghaeng Bus routes will also operate temporarily according to the ‘Seoul Donghaeng Bus Operation Principles’ until local public transportation conditions improve, such as new subway openings or establishment of new bus routes, and the routes will be flexibly adjusted through continuous monitoring.
Additionally, among the Seoul Donghaeng Buses, Seoul Route 02 (Gimpo City Pungmu-dong to Gimpo Airport Station), Seoul Route 04 (Goyang City Wonheung District to Gayang Station), and Seoul Route 05 (Yangju City Okjeong District to Dobongsan Station), which apply the main bus fare of 1,500 KRW, will be able to use the ‘Climate Donghaeng Card’ that will be piloted starting January next year.
