Imsil-gun Makes All-Out Effort to Block 'Lumpy Skin Disease'... Vaccination Conducted at Livestock Farms
Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk is making every effort to block the regional spread of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), which is showing nationwide expansion.
The county announced on the 30th that it will carry out vaccination for 230,080 cattle at 759 local cattle farms until the 10th of next month to prevent the spread of LSD.

For this vaccination, small-scale farms with fewer than 50 cattle will be vaccinated by a vaccination team composed of public veterinarians, public officials, and livestock cooperative staff, while farms with 50 or more cattle will receive vaccines and syringes through the town and township offices and perform self-vaccination.
Lumpy Skin Disease is a viral infectious disease transmitted by blood-sucking insects such as mosquitoes, flies, and ticks, and is designated as a first-class statutory livestock infectious disease.
When infected, hard nodules appear on the cattle’s skin, accompanied by symptoms such as high fever and loss of appetite, with a mortality rate below 10%.
The county is first operating the LSD Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters to maintain an emergency situation, conducting clinical surveillance through public veterinarians and telephone surveillance using livestock quarantine officers.
In addition, it has established a cooperative system with the Imsil Livestock Cooperative Joint Control Team and the public health center, mobilizing all available pest control vehicles to carry out pest control activities targeting blood-sucking insects, the main transmission vectors of LSD, since the 21st.
Furthermore, to prevent the virus from entering the jurisdiction, the LSD Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters was urgently established to maintain a 24-hour emergency system.
The local livestock market has been closed, and key disinfection facilities are being operated to strengthen disinfection of livestock vehicles entering farms.
While strengthening publicity to livestock farms, concentrated disinfection of mosquito and fly habitats such as water puddles and compost sheds is being encouraged.
Although there have been no confirmed or suspected reports of LSD in Imsil-gun yet, tension remains high due to the large number of Hanwoo (dairy cattle) farms.
If suspicious symptoms are found in livestock, they should be reported to the livestock quarantine situation room.
County Governor Sim Min said, “To block the entry of LSD into the region, farms must focus on disinfecting barns and controlling pests,” and added, “We ask for thorough operation of the quarantine countermeasures headquarters, disinfection around livestock farms, restrictions on livestock farm movements, and strengthened surveillance to block the spread of LSD.”
