Korea Transportation Safety Authority Holds 'Mobility Support Center Opening Ceremony'
Song Eon-seok, Lee Dal-hee, and Jeong Jin-hyeok Attend
At 2 p.m. on the 30th, the opening ceremony of the 'Mobility Support Center' will be held at the headquarters of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority in downtown Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk. Attendees include Song Eon-seok, a member of the People Power Party from the region, Baek Won-guk, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Lee Dal-hee, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of Gyeongbuk Province, Jeong Jin-hyeok, President of the Korean Society of Transportation, and heads of related organizations.
Following the enactment of the 'Act on Support for Mobility Innovation and Activation,' the Korea Transportation Safety Authority applied for the designation of the Mobility Support Center announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in June and was finally designated as the Mobility Support Center on the 19th.
Mobility generally refers to the ease of movement, that is, mobility itself. It broadly encompasses the enhancement of mobility through the integration of advanced technologies and strengthening connectivity between modes of transportation. Relevant fields include autonomous vehicles, urban air mobility (UAM), digital logistics, mobility services, and smart cities.
The Mobility Support Center is composed of the Mobility Policy Division, Regulatory Innovation Division, and Demonstration Project Division. Its main tasks include investigating the current status of advanced mobility, establishing, evaluating, and supporting improvement projects for local governments' mobility improvement plans, supporting private companies in establishing mobility infrastructure measures, providing regulatory exemptions for mobility demonstrations to resolve regulations, and designating and supporting mobility-specialized cities through technical support.
According to the Mobility Innovation Roadmap announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in September last year, the center is expected to lead innovation in line with the significant changes the future mobility era will bring, through the establishment of a safety management system and demonstration projects for newly emerging advanced mobility means.
