Please call it 'Seodaemun Hongje Waterfall,' an urban healing spot
Hongjecheon Waterfall, Also Known as Hongje Artificial Waterfall, Officially Named
The waterfall along the Hongjecheon Stream near Seodaemun-gu Office, harmoniously blending with nature to an extent that it is hard to believe it is located in downtown Seoul, has received a new name.
Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced on the 26th that the waterfall near the district office, which has been gaining attention as a healing spot in the city, has been newly named "Seodaemun Hongje Waterfall."
Previously, it was variously called Hongjecheon Waterfall, Hongje-dong Waterfall, Hongje Artificial Waterfall, or Hongjecheon Artificial Waterfall, but it now has an official name. The district selected the new name through a contest and preference survey among district office employees, followed by an internal review.
"Seodaemun Hongje Waterfall" was created in 2011 and features a natural beauty with a height of 25 meters and a width of 60 meters.
Depending on the season, it attracts many visitors with its refreshing cool waterfall stream, a magnificent giant ice wall, and beautiful scenery harmonized with spring flowers and autumn foliage.
It is also a popular backdrop for live weather reports by various broadcasting stations throughout the four seasons.
Especially this year, Seodaemun-gu has developed a waterfront caf?, outdoor terrace, and a small library across the waterfall through the "Seoul-style Waterfront Sensibility City" project, and hosts various performances, making it an even more beloved hot place.
More than 50,000 citizens of all ages visit this place every month to comfortably sit and enjoy a cup of tea while admiring the waterfall.
Additionally, through social networking services (SNS), this space has rapidly become famous as a spot for the so-called "waterfall daze," where visitors quietly gaze at the waterfall in a dazed state, attracting foreign tourists as well.
Furthermore, the number of citizens enjoying the nearby "Ansan Jarak-gil" trail and the "Ansan Hwangtot-gil" trail, which opened in August this year, is naturally increasing.
