Daegu Hosts 'Student Book Festival'... Jeong Hoseung, Hwang Sunmi, Jang Seokju Participate in 'Meet the Authors'
The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kang Eun-hee) will hold the "2023 Daegu Student Book Festival" for two days from the 27th to the 28th at the Daegu Democratic Citizenship Education Center and the Daegu 2·28 Memorial Student Library to spread a joyful reading culture and create a communication platform for reading and humanities education between schools and local communities.
This book festival will feature author meetings, reading-linked experiential activities, exhibitions and presentations by school reading and humanities clubs (research groups), exhibitions by local reading and humanities-related institutions (organizations), a student reading debate camp, teacher reading education training, an award ceremony for the elementary, middle, and high school reading and humanities student club video contest, and an exhibition of student (teacher) author publication support books published from 2009 to the present.
This year’s book festival will be held in various formats such as special lectures, training, experiences, presentations, and camps. It is scheduled over the weekend from Friday evening to Saturday evening so that more members of the Daegu education community, including working parents, school staff, and citizens, can enjoy the book festival.
Additionally, to form a reading and humanities education network between schools and local communities, the Daegu Literature Museum, Jeong Ho-seung Literature Museum, Samguk Yusa Gunwi Library, and 10 public libraries under the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, as well as independent bookstores, will operate exhibition booths and experiential programs together, providing diverse information related to reading and humanities education.
To foster a culture where parents read books and schools recommend books, the festival invites famous authors who are usually seen in textbooks and broadcast media to conduct an "Author Meeting" program where parents and children, as well as teachers and students, can participate together. During the author meeting, participants can meet poet Jeong Ho-seung, children’s author Hwang Sun-mi, and poet and literary critic Jang Seok-ju.
To allow students to experience reading and sharing books with friends, a student reading debate camp will be held on the 28th from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Daegu 2·28 Memorial Student Library for 39 students from 5th grade elementary to 3rd grade middle school. Participating students will choose and read two books out of six designated books and participate in the reading debate.
