Startups with Core Local Technologies Seek Investment Connections and Market Expansion
Pohang City is accelerating the expansion of a locally driven ‘self-sustaining startup ecosystem.’
On the 25th, the ‘2023 Gyeongbuk Startup Investment Matching Day,’ hosted by Gyeongbuk Province, was held at Change Up Ground with about 200 attendees including Mayor Lee Kang-deok, Lee Dal-hee, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongbuk Province, Kim Sung-geun, President of POSTECH, Lee Young-ho, Head of Daegu Regional Public Procurement Service, Kim Yong-su, Head of POSCO Purchasing and Investment Headquarters, Lee Gu-wook, CEO of JB Investment, Park Moon-soo, CEO of Inlight Ventures, and startup representatives and executives from Gyeongbuk Province.
Held under the theme ‘Step High, Fly High,’ the ‘Gyeongbuk Startup Investment Matching Day’ was organized to actively discover regional startups with innovative technology and ideas amid growing domestic and international attention on startup growth, and to provide support at various growth stages such as startup investment, technology cooperation, and domestic and overseas networking.
The two-day event from the 25th to the 26th featured various programs including ▲venture capital (VC) and accelerator (AC) investment consultations ▲startup activation forums and talk concerts ▲management difficulties and market expansion consulting ▲venture investment capacity-building education for industry-academia-research-government stakeholders.
Additionally, a separate networking day between startups and investors was held to create a broad platform for exchange that goes beyond simple corporate interaction, seeking practical support measures among investors, startups, and industry-academia-research-government related organizations.
In particular, startup exhibition and experience booths were set up by region within the province to showcase unique technological capabilities and future visions based on advanced future technologies. Mayor Lee Kang-deok and Deputy Governor Lee Dal-hee personally toured key startup booths during the event, discussing specific cooperation plans such as technology acquisition and investment proposals that could be linked to each company’s core business.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated, “Regional startups are the core growth engines and protagonists of innovation in the upcoming advanced technology era,” adding, “We will spare no administrative support so that startups armed with technology and ideas can boldly challenge and succeed not only in Korea but also in the global market.”
