Jeonnam Province Puts Full Effort into Flawless Preparation for National Disabled Sports Festival
Careful Preparations for 'Field-Centered' Enhancements Including Accessibility and Mobility Convenience
Opening Ceremony Creates a Harmonious Venue with the Theme 'Let the Sound of Jeonnam Spread High'
Jeonnam Province is putting all its efforts into thorough preparations, including mobility convenience, ahead of the opening of the 43rd National Disabled Sports Festival.
On the 25th, the province announced that it held a final preparation briefing chaired by Governor Kim Young-rok to review the overall situation for the successful hosting of the event.
About 30 participants from the provincial government, Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, Jeonnam Disabled Sports Association, Mokpo City, and others attended the meeting. After reporting on the opening and closing ceremony production plans, they checked the progress by institution and sector and discussed various opinions among related organizations for a successful sports festival.
To ensure convenience for athletes and spectators visiting Jeonnam during the event, comprehensive preparations and operations were focused on traffic and parking measures, accommodation and restaurants, facility safety, environmental maintenance, and event management.
Given the nature of the National Disabled Sports Festival, a large number of socially vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities, are expected to visit Jeonnam. Accordingly, heartfelt hospitality preparations were made to create a national sports festival of harmony and emotion by deeply addressing major issues such as mobility convenience at venues, accommodations, and restaurants, athlete lodging and transportation, and restroom hygiene management.
At the briefing, the province comprehensively reviewed incomplete areas raised and some problems that occurred during the National Sports Festival, and plans to meticulously prepare by mobilizing all administrative capabilities and devising on-site improvement measures during the remaining period.
To secure accessibility and mobility convenience, the operating hours of disabled call taxis in the 12 cities and counties hosting the Disabled Sports Festival will be extended. To support the convenience of wheelchair-using athletes in accommodations and restaurants, temporary ramps will be installed at entrances and restrooms before the opening of the Disabled Sports Festival.
In addition to the restrooms installed at existing venues, 80 temporary restrooms will be added at 29 venues, with gender separation, privacy partitions, and location guide signs installed to actively protect the rights of people with disabilities. Daily cleanliness inspections and management are also being conducted to enhance convenience for athletes and spectators.
To raise public interest in the National Disabled Sports Festival, which receives relatively less attention compared to the National Sports Festival, extensive promotional activities using various media are being carried out.
Active promotion efforts to increase awareness of the National Disabled Sports Festival include KTX exterior wrapping, KTX and SRT cabin monitor advertisements, promotions at major train stations such as Yongsan Station, Suseo Station, and Busan Station, wrapping advertisements on nationwide touring express buses and city bus stops, as well as utilizing central and local media and social networking services (SNS) both online and offline.
The opening ceremony will be themed “Let the Sound of Jeonnam Spread High!” and will be produced as a harmony venue where the sounds of Jeonnam and sounds made by our bodies come together to overcome discrimination and prejudice.
Governor Kim Young-rok said, “With the passion and capabilities shown at the National Sports Festival, I believe this National Disabled Sports Festival will also be a great success as a festival of national unity and emotion,” adding, “Please focus all your capabilities until the end to prepare thoroughly and flawlessly to create an environment where people with and without disabilities can participate and enjoy together, delivering emotion and joy to all citizens.”
