National Rehabilitation Center to Host 'WHO Collaborative Rehabilitation Forum' on the 26th
The National Rehabilitation Center of the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 25th that it will hold the "World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborative Rehabilitation Forum" at the Conrad Seoul Hotel on the 26th.
The event brings together rehabilitation experts and practitioners from both domestic and international fields to discuss the role and necessity of rehabilitation in the increasing emergency and disaster situations. It will also share cases of inclusive international development cooperation for disabilities in the Western Pacific region and explore the future direction of international cooperation.
The forum will proceed in the order of a special lecture, Part 1, Part 2, and an expert panel discussion. For the special lecture, Dr. Jody-anne MILLS, a WHO Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO) officer, will speak about the unmet needs for rehabilitation services and WHO’s leadership.
Part 1 will begin with a keynote speech by the Emergency Focal Point at the WHO headquarters, followed by presentations on various cases from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), M?decins Sans Fronti?res (MSF), Japan Disaster Rehabilitation Assistance Team (JRAT), and the Australian Emergency Rehabilitation Medical Team.
Part 2 will discuss the future of international cooperation in rehabilitation and disability in the Western Pacific region by inviting the Asian Spinal Cord Network (ASCoN) to present its rehabilitation workforce capacity-building program, as well as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH).

Yoon-gyu Kang, Director of the National Rehabilitation Center, stated, "The role of rehabilitation is growing in the increasing emergency and disaster situations," adding, "Through this forum, we hope to gather opinions on integrating rehabilitation as an essential service within the health and medical system, from response and preparedness to emergency and disaster situations."
