Seocho Symphony Orchestra's Korean War and Korea-US Alliance 70th Anniversary Concert at New York Carnegie Hall
On the 23rd at New York's Carnegie Hall, Seocho Symphony Orchestra performed 17 pieces at the 'Korean War Commemoration Concert'... Classical performances including Verdi's opera La forza del destino, with Canadian trumpeter Jens Lindemann, cellist Go Bong-shin, and world-renowned soprano Jo Sumi collaborating on Arirang, drew great applause from over 2,500 attendees... The Seocho Symphony Orchestra of Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) showcased the charm of Seocho, a city of classical music, on the dream stage for artists, New York's Carnegie Hall.
On the 24th (local time, the 23rd), the Seocho Symphony Orchestra delivered an impressive performance to an audience of over 2,500 at the "Korean War Commemoration Concert" held at Carnegie Hall in New York, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice and the Korea-US alliance, successfully concluding the event.
The concert was attended by Hwang Jun-guk, South Korea's Ambassador to the United Nations, ambassadors from over 50 UN member countries, Korean War veterans, and their families.
This concert, themed "In Remembrance of Our Heroes," was organized by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. It was a stage planned to pay tribute to the noble sacrifices of the veterans and to let the public know that they have not been forgotten.
Under the direction of conductor Bae Jong-hoon, the Seocho Symphony Orchestra opened the program with the overture from Giuseppe Verdi's opera La Forza del Destino (The Force of Destiny).
Following this, the orchestra collaborated with Jens Lindemann, a prominent trumpeter from Canada, one of the allied countries, cellist Go Bong-shin, and jazz-pop artist Matt Cuttingube. The finale was graced by the world-renowned soprano Sumi Jo and the Seocho Symphony Orchestra. Sumi Jo sang "Arirang," a soulful Korean folk song, receiving great applause from the audience.
Prior to this, on the 19th, the Seocho Symphony Orchestra held a commemorative concert at Koerner Hall in Toronto to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Canada.

The Seocho Symphony Orchestra is a 60-member orchestra consisting of students, professional artists, and various age groups, led by conductor Bae Jong-hoon as the resident artistic group of the Seocho Cultural Foundation. Founded in 2016, it plans the annual UN Peace Concert, instilling pride and emotion in the UN veterans who participated in the Korean War. In September, it also performed at the "2023 Seoripul Festival," which filled Banpo-daero with musical gifts.
Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, "Through this performance by the Seocho Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, I hope it becomes a precious opportunity to remember the veterans who willingly extended their hands when our country was in hardship and to promote the charm of the Republic of Korea and the cultural and artistic city of Seocho."
