Gwangjin-gu Holds Resident Briefing on Installation of Crosswalk at Gunja Station Intersection
Since March, basic design and consultations with related agencies have been underway to derive the optimal plan... Explanation of the basic design (draft) for traffic islands and north-south crosswalks and hearing residents' opinions
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) announced on the 23rd that it held a 'Resident Briefing Session on Traffic System Improvement and Crosswalk Installation at Gunja Station Intersection' at the Gunja-dong Community Center auditorium.
The main purpose was to explain the design plan for the new crosswalk at Gunja Station Intersection and to collect residents' opinions.
While there is an east-west crosswalk at Gunja Station Intersection, there is no north-south crosswalk for moving towards Junggok-dong, causing inconvenience as pedestrians have to use the underground subway passage. Installing a crosswalk is urgent to improve pedestrian convenience and enhance accessibility between the geographically separated Junggok-dong, Neung-dong, and Gunja-dong areas.
Accordingly, in March, the district conducted a joint site inspection with related agencies including the police station and carried out a basic design project for the new north-south crosswalk at Gunja Station. In September, practical consultations were completed with Gwangjin Police Station and the design firm, and this time, residents' opinions on the design plan were gathered.
The resident briefing session was held with about 150 residents from Gunja-dong, Neung-dong, and Junggok-dong, adjacent to Gunja Station, and proceeded with a progress report and Q&A. The main topics of discussion were the installation of traffic islands and securing pedestrian paths, with residents raising questions about bicycle parking issues and changes to pedestrian routes.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "The installation of a crosswalk at Gunja Station Intersection has been a long-standing wish of local residents and a place with frequent pedestrian inconvenience complaints," adding, "We will continue to communicate tirelessly with related agencies and residents to create a safe and convenient traffic environment."
