According to the Buan Coast Police Station on the 22nd, at around 5:57 a.m. that day, fishing boat A, carrying 18 people, collided with a tugboat approximately 1.6 km east of Hawangdeungdo, Wido-myeon, Buan-gun, Jeonbuk.
As a result of the collision, boat A capsized, and the tugboat sustained some damage. The coast guard, dispatched to the accident site along with nearby fishing boats, rescued all crew members aboard boat A, but four of them were unconscious.
The coast guard urgently transported them to nearby hospitals using a maritime police helicopter, but they were ultimately pronounced dead. The remaining 14 people, who sustained various injuries, were transferred to hospitals in Jeongeup, Buan, and Iksan for treatment.

The coast guard explained that the crew of boat A had properly completed the crew list when departing from Gyeokpo Port in Buan. After salvaging boat A, the coast guard plans to investigate the cause of the accident. A representative from the Buan Maritime Police Station said, "Although it was dark before sunrise, the likelihood of an accident occurring solely for this reason is low," adding, "We will need to investigate the crew members to understand the circumstances."
