The POSCO Group Employment Academy is a project designed to support the stable settlement of local youth in Gwangyang City and to meet the social demand for youth employment support by selecting young job seekers and providing an education program aimed at nurturing talent tailored to large corporations.
In collaboration with the Gwangyang Chamber of Commerce and Industry, this employment academy program began on April 27 and over six months included lectures on △writing self-introduction letters and interview special lectures △practical business manners and knowledge △POSCO's management philosophy and history △lectures on each steelmaking process.
Previously, the POSCO Group Employment Academy started with a business agreement between Gwangyang Steelworks and Gwangyang City in 2019 to pledge cooperation for improving employment rates among local youth. Since the first class in 2020, a total of 122 graduates have been produced.
Among the 90 young people who graduated up to the 3rd class, 76 have successfully found employment in POSCO, POSCO group companies, and related steel and petrochemical companies.
Gwangyang Steelworks has continuously improved the operation method of the Employment Academy program to enhance youth employment rates.
To nurture talent tailored to companies through improved understanding of industries and job roles, a corporate analysis special lecture was newly introduced, and professional instructors from the POSCO Human Resources Creation Center were invited to provide specialized education in job-related fields such as machinery and electrical engineering.
Additionally, to strengthen the interview skills of trainees, interview special lectures were subdivided by personality and job type, and current employees who graduated from the Employment Academy were invited to hold Q&A sessions with the trainees to address their questions and concerns.
At the graduation ceremony, one graduate said, "Through this Employment Academy, I was able to accumulate know-how and knowledge for job preparation, bringing me closer to employment success," and added, "I am grateful to Gwangyang Steelworks for providing a job support program for local youth."
An official from Gwangyang Steelworks stated, "Most of the graduates from the previous Employment Academy programs have achieved actual employment success," and added, "We will continue to show interest and support for the employment success of local youth."
