Started in 2018 and now in its 6th year, the Hope Stepping Stones Project is organized by Gwangyang Steelworks to provide various healing programs for children under 12 years old with special disabilities who need assistance.

In particular, the project holds special significance as it is operated with financial support from the ‘POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation,’ funded by 1% of POSCO employees’ salaries, ‘POSCO Humans,’ the first subsidiary-type standard workplace for the disabled established by POSCO in Korea, and the ‘Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority.’

This year, 125 children are expected to participate. The participating children will be offered psychological rehabilitation programs consisting of △ music therapy △ art therapy △ sensory integration activities △ special exercise therapy, as well as a forest experience program themed around the forest, providing various experiential activities with the children.

Gwangyang Steelworks plans to invite professional instructors to enhance the quality of the programs and conduct the psychological rehabilitation programs. For the forest experience program, where emotional interaction with the children is important, volunteers from the Hope Stepping Stones volunteer group, composed of Gwangyang Steelworks employees, will directly engage with the children.

Lee Cheol-ho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “The Hope Stepping Stones Project is especially meaningful as it provides children with physical and emotional healing programs that are not easily accessible.” He added, “Going forward, Gwangyang Steelworks will continue to discover and promote social contribution projects for children with disabilities as a corporate citizen, striving to become a company that grows together with the local community.”
