On the 18th, the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency (Director Moon Ki-seong) announced that Kim Geon-hye (27) donated her heart, liver, and kidneys (left and right) through brain-dead organ donation at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital on the 7th of last month.
Kim was swept away by strong currents while snorkeling in the sea last August and was rescued by the coast guard. She received treatment at the hospital but ultimately did not regain consciousness.
Born in Seoul as the second child among one son and two daughters, Kim had an active personality, enjoying meeting people and sharing food she made.
In particular, she was a bride-to-be who had completed the formal meeting between families in May and was looking for a wedding hall and newlywed home, which made the surrounding people even more saddened.
The family agreed to the donation with the hope that their daughter's organs would go to people in need and good recipients. They said that if others could live a new life because of their daughter’s passing, it meant that she could continue to live through those bodies.
Kim’s mother, Kim Bo-jeong, said, "I wanted to bless you as you start a new life wearing a white wedding dress, but now you must be watching us from heaven," and added, "I hope only joyful and happy things fill your time in heaven. I love you, my daughter," giving her final farewell.
