Gwangju Seo-gu Conducts 'COVID-19 Vaccination' for High-Risk Groups
Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 18th that COVID-19 vaccinations will be administered to high-risk groups starting from the 19th.
Due to the decrease in immunity over time, periodic COVID-19 vaccinations are necessary. This vaccination will be carried out using the newly developed XBB.1.5 monovalent vaccine, which is designed to respond to new variants.
Considering the COVID-19 fatality rate, Seo-gu will prioritize vaccinations for high-risk groups (seniors aged 65 and over, immunocompromised individuals aged 12-64, and residents, inpatients, and workers in infection-vulnerable facilities) starting from the 19th. Vaccinations for those aged 12-64 will be conducted from the 1st of next month until March 31 of next year.
Vaccination is available once regardless of previous vaccination history, and can be received free of charge at designated medical institutions within Seo-gu by presenting identification.
Information on designated medical institutions for COVID-19 vaccinations within the district can be found on the Seo-gu Public Health Center website's information section or the COVID-19 Vaccination Helper website.
Park Haejeong, head of the Infectious Disease Control Division of Seo-gu, said, "To prevent incorrect vaccinations, we ask that people check the vaccination eligibility and schedule before visiting designated medical institutions," adding, "We aim to reduce the risk of severe illness and death caused by COVID-19 infection through prioritized vaccination of high-risk groups such as seniors aged 65 and over."
