27th Senior Citizens Day Commemorative Event Held
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the "27th Senior Citizens' Day Commemoration Event" on the morning of the 17th at the Jinhae Cultural Center Gymnasium, hosted by the Korea Senior Citizens Association Jinhae Branch in celebration of October as the Month of the Elderly.
An event commemorating Senior Citizens' Day was held, organized by the Changwon City Jinhae Branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association.
View original imageMarking its 27th anniversary this year, the ceremony was attended by Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, local district and city council members, Kim Jong-hyo, President of the Korea Senior Citizens Association Changwon Branch, Kim Gu-su, President of the Korea Senior Citizens Association Masan Branch, senior association officials, and about 600 local elders, expressing gratitude for the pivotal role the elderly have played in the community.
The ceremony began with a pre-event, followed by the opening declaration, reading of the Senior Citizens' Pledge and the Senior Citizens' Charter, and included an award presentation to 10 exemplary seniors and contributors to senior welfare who have worked for community development and the promotion of senior welfare, along with a consolation event.
Mayor Hong stated, "The remarkable prosperity of today's Republic of Korea was made possible by the dedication of our elders," adding, "We will take greater care to ensure that seniors are respected and live happily. We also ask the elders to contribute their wisdom to the development of Changwon City."

Meanwhile, Changwon Special City supports free city bus rides for seniors aged 75 and older starting from October 2, Senior Citizens' Day, and plans to expand senior job programs to about 15,000 positions in 2024 to help seniors lead active and healthy lives.
