'Yongin Jungang Park' Transforms into an Ecological Park Blending Water and Forest
Yongin City Secures 1.5 Billion KRW for Han River Basin Resident Support Budget
3 Billion KRW Also Invested in Building Yongin Comprehensive Environmental Education Center
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 17th that it has secured a budget of 1.5 billion KRW from the Hangang Watershed Fund for Resident Support Projects, which will be used for environmental improvements of Yongin Central Park and the construction of the Yongin Comprehensive Environmental Education Center next year.
The Hangang Watershed Fund is a fund established to support benefit projects for residents in the Hangang Watershed water source protection areas. Throughout next year, 14.5 billion KRW from the fund will be allocated to benefit projects for residents in water source protection areas through evaluations by the Hangang Watershed Committee. In the case of Cheoin-gu, Yongin, it is part of the Gyeongancheon watershed upstream of the Hangang River and is subject to overlapping regulations such as special countermeasure areas and waterfront zones.
Of the budget secured this time, 1.2 billion KRW will be allocated to the environmental improvement project of Yongin Central Park in the southeastern part of Cheoin-gu. Yongin Central Park, covering an area of 325,543㎡, opened in 2008, but its facilities have aged, raising the need for large-scale maintenance. The city plans to create an urban ecological park equipped with a freshwater plant observation center, a wall fountain, and ground fountains by next year through facility improvements and maintenance.
Additionally, the city has secured an additional 300 million KRW from this fund to build the Yongin Comprehensive Environmental Education Center. The center, planned to be built in Pogok-eup, Cheoin-gu, will be a space for environmental education and ecological experiences. It is currently in the design competition phase and is scheduled for completion in 2026.
Meanwhile, Yongin City explained that with this budget acquisition, it has secured a total of 3.3 billion KRW in special support funds for the Gyeongancheon watershed over the past four years.
