It is recognized as one of the four major democratic uprisings in modern Korean history, alongside the April 19 Revolution, the May 18 Democratic Movement, and the June 10 Democratic Uprising.
The Buma Democratic Uprising memorial ceremony has been held biennially in Busan and Changwon since it was designated a national memorial day in 2019. This year, the event was hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Buma Democratic Uprising Truth Commission under the Prime Minister’s Office, and organized by the Buma Democratic Uprising Memorial Foundation in Changwon City.
The ceremony was attended by about 500 people, including those related to the Buma Uprising, civic groups, and students. It began with a performance by the Changwon Multicultural Boys and Girls Choir, followed by the national ceremony, a progress report in the form of a play, and commemorative performances.
The commemorative performance concluded with an orchestra rendition of "Dawn Field," the dedicated song for the Buma Democratic Uprising, and singer Lee Young-hyun’s vocal performances of "Song of the Wind" and "Butterfly" (a track featured in the movie "Take Off").
