Israel Moves to Close Al Jazeera Bureau "Incited Pro-Hamas Sentiment"
"Israeli Forces Exposed to Potential Hamas Attacks"
Israel, engaged in conflict with the Palestinian armed faction Hamas, is pushing to shut down the Israeli bureau of Qatar's Arabic and English broadcaster Al Jazeera.
According to major foreign media on the 15th (local time), Silomo Karhi, Israel's Minister of Communications, stated in an interview with the military radio broadcast that Al Jazeera engaged in 'pro-Hamas' propaganda and exposed the Israeli military to potential Hamas attacks. He claimed, "This broadcaster films military gatherings (outside the Gaza Strip) and acts as a propaganda spokesperson inciting against Israeli citizens," adding, "It is unconscionable that Hamas spokespersons' messages are disseminated through this broadcaster."
He said that the closure plan for Al Jazeera has been reviewed by Israeli security authorities, and legal experts are currently examining it, with the intention to submit it to the cabinet within the day.
