Heritage Walking Event for the 99th Anniversary Held in Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, Birthplace of Late Chairman Kim Yeon-su
"Awakening the Founder's Spirit of Challenge and Pioneering
to Leap into a New Century as a Leading Company"
Kim Yoon, chairman of Samyang Group, embarked on a trekking walk along the salt farm trail in Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, where the founder's birthplace is located, on the 13th to celebrate the 99th anniversary of the company's founding with employees.
Samyang Group announced on the 15th that it held a 'Heritage Walking' event on that day to honor the pioneering spirit of the late founder, Chairman Kim Yeon-su, also known as Sudang. About 200 employees who applied in advance participated in the event, including Chairman Kim Yoon.
Chairman Kim Yoon and the employees walked together along a 6.8 km trail from the Gochang Mudflat Botanical Garden to Haeri Salt Farm (in the Simwon-myeon area of Gochang-gun).
Haeri Salt Farm was constructed in the 1940s by founder Kim Yeon-su to resolve the salt shortage crisis, which was as severe as the food shortage at the time. It is the largest in Korea, covering 3.14 million square meters (950,000 pyeong). It is currently being utilized for regional community development. Gochang-gun acquired the salt farm site as part of an ecological landscape project.

The employees also visited Chairman Kim’s birthplace in Buan-myeon, Gochang-gun. Founder Kim was born there in 1896 and lived there until he moved to another area in 1907. Later, in 1977, the founder personally restored the house to its original appearance. Jeollabuk-do designated it as Monument No. 39 to preserve the historic house and its original form.
Chairman Kim Yoon said, "Gochang, Jeonbuk, is a meaningful place imbued with Chairman Kim Yeon-su’s spirit of serving the nation through industry and is the foundation that made today’s Samyang Group possible. Based on today’s experience, let us awaken the spirit of challenge and pioneering and move forward vigorously for the new 100 years."
