"Q4 DRAM Prices Expected to Rise 3-8%"
TrendForce Announces DRAM Price Forecast
There is a forecast that the price of D-RAM, a representative product of memory semiconductors, could rise by up to 8% in the fourth quarter.
On the 13th, market research firm TrendForce stated, "In the fourth quarter, prices of D-RAM and NAND flash are expected to generally increase." They explained that although the average selling price (ASP) of D-RAM in the third quarter fell by 0 to 5% compared to the previous quarter, it could rebound in the fourth quarter.
Looking at the types of D-RAM, the price increase for mobile D-RAM is expected to be relatively clear in the fourth quarter. Low Power Double Data Rate (LPDDR) 4X is expected to rise by 3 to 8%, while the newer generation products LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X are anticipated to increase by 5 to 10%. Prices for PC, server, graphics, and consumer D-RAM are each expected to rise by about 3 to 8%.
TrendForce explained that for the D-RAM price uptrend to continue, industry production cuts and market demand recovery are necessary. They also noted that demand for general-purpose servers could be a variable in the market.
Currently, D-RAM suppliers such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and the US-based Micron are all cutting production to improve the memory market conditions. Recently, these production cut efforts by the industry have been effective, leading to reduced inventory in the market and signs of a rebound in D-RAM prices.
