Two Fishermen Trapped on Gadeokdo Breakwater Rescued After Rubber Boat 'Squeaks'

View original imageAt around 1:23 a.m. on the 13th, two anglers who were stranded on the breakwater near Daehang Port on Gadeokdo Island, Gangseo-gu, Busan, were rescued by the Coast Guard.
According to the Changwon Maritime Police Station in Gyeongnam, Mr. A, a man in his 60s, and Mr. B, a man in his 70s, were fishing on the nearby breakwater using a non-motorized rubber boat at Daehang Port around 8:30 p.m. the previous day when the rubber boat got caught on a tree and tore, leaving them stranded.
The Changwon Coast Guard, upon receiving the report, dispatched a coastal rescue boat from the Sinhang Police Substation to the scene and rescued the two men.
While en route, the Coast Guard maintained contact with the distressed individuals to check their safety. Upon arrival, they confirmed the health status of the two men and transported them along with the torn boat back to Daehang Port.

A Changwon Coast Guard official stated, “It is common to become stranded when fishing on breakwaters or rocky shores, and visibility is poor at night, making it easy to slip, so it is important to check the surrounding safety.” He added, “If you become stranded or injured while fishing, please report immediately to the Coast Guard.”
