Participation in the 'ByeByePlastic Challenge'
On the 12th, Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, participated in the ‘Bye Bye Plastic Challenge,’ which aims to reduce unnecessary plastic consumption and spread the practice of responsible consumption.
Launched on August 16 by Han Hwa-jin, Minister of Environment, the ‘Bye Bye Plastic Challenge’ is a relay campaign that declares and implements actions to reduce plastic use in daily life. Mayor Hong joined the challenge after being nominated by Kim Byung-gyu, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongnam Province.

View original imageMayor Hong, who took part in the challenge, posted a message and photo on his personal SNS pledging to reduce single-use plastics, and nominated Kim I-geun, Chairman of the Changwon Special City Council, and Jang Dong-hwa, Director of the Changwon Industrial Promotion Agency, as the next participants.
The city is currently conducting a pilot project for reusable cups at cafes to reduce the use of disposable products. Reusable cups are also being used at various meetings held within the city hall, and this initiative is being expanded to the five district offices.
In addition, the city is focusing on spreading a culture of practice in daily life, including ▲ eradicating the use of plastic artificial flowers in park cemeteries ▲ promoting the reuse of transparent PET bottles.
