2023 Let's Jongno 'Gugak Lo Festa' Held
Jongno-gu to Host 2023 Let's Jongno 'Gugak Lofesta' on 13th and 14th... Featuring 'Donhwamun-ro Cultural Festival,' 'K-Jewelry Jongno Festival,' 'Seoul Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival,' and 'Seoul Gugak Festival' Together
Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) will hold the 'Gugakro Festa' on the 13th and 14th along Gugak-ro (Donhwamun-ro) to Seosunra-gil as part of the '2023 Let's Jongno' event.
Among the 10 events hosted by the district throughout the first to third weeks of October, Gugakro Festa is expected to be the highlight festival of the second week.
The festival plans to complete the Gugakro Festa by combining the 'Donhwamun-ro Cultural Festival,' which continues the long history of Donhwamun-ro where kings of the Joseon Dynasty met their people, the ambitious 'K-Jewelry Jongno Festival' prepared by Jongno, a renowned center of the precious metals industry, the 'Seoul Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival' that widely promotes the value of Seoul's intangible cultural assets, and the 'Seoul Gugak Festival' that captures the beauty of traditional Korean music.
In addition to various festivals, institutions supporting young artists in the traditional performance field will also participate in Gugakro Festa. Performances by this year’s selected artists from Surim Cultural Foundation (Surim New Wave), National Jeongdong Theater (Cheongchun Manbal), Traditional Performing Arts Promotion Foundation (Young Artist Creative Support), and Seoul Namsan Gugakdang (Young Gugak Director) will be showcased regularly.
Especially, at 6:30 PM on the 13th, a special stage summarizing the charm of Gugakro Festa under the name 'Bold Gugakro' will be held at the main stage and the lawn yard.
Various experiences and markets open for all citizens passing by will also be available. Representative examples include a tour program led by festival docents transformed into modern musicians, a DIY Korean sound kit, and an event where participants who wear a pedometer and enjoy the festival can receive an eco-friendly gift upon achieving more than 5,000 steps.
Meanwhile, the K-Jewelry Jongno Festival, held for the second time following last year, is also considered a highlight of the event.
It is jointly hosted and organized by the district and the Korea Precious Metals and Jewelry Association to expand sales channels and promote the jewelry industry, which represents Jongno’s local industry. The festival features pop-up stores of jewelry brands based in the district, jewelry runway shows, and gemstone appraisals.
Details on the festival schedule, programs, and other information can be found on the Let's Jongno or Jongno Cultural Foundation websites.
