Gyeonggi-do to Offer Free Flu Vaccinations for Seniors Aged 65 and Over Starting the 11th
Gyeonggi Province will provide free influenza (flu) vaccinations for seniors from the 11th of this month until April 30th of next year.
Vaccinations will begin on the 11th for those aged 75 and older, on the 16th for those aged 70 and older, and on the 19th for those aged 65 and older.
The influenza vaccine takes about two weeks after administration to form protective antibodies, and although it varies by individual, the immune effect typically lasts for about six months.
There are 5,189 designated medical institutions for influenza vaccination in Gyeonggi Province, and nearby vaccination centers can be found on the Vaccination Helper website (nip.kdca.go.kr).
In the fourth week of September, the number of outpatient cases suspected of influenza was 20.8 per 1,000 people, approximately four times higher compared to the same period last year (4.9 per 1,000 people).
In particular, this year, ongoing domestic and international studies have confirmed the safety and efficacy of simultaneous COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations, and simultaneous vaccination is recommended to prevent infections of both COVID-19 and influenza.
Therefore, seniors wishing to receive simultaneous vaccinations can visit vaccination centers starting from the 19th, which is the start date for COVID-19 vaccinations.
