...Expanding Resident Participation and Benefits, Developing into a Festival Created by Residents
The “2023 Yongma Waterfall Culture and Arts Festival,” hosted and organized by the Jungnang Cultural Foundation (Chairman Pyo Jae-soon), will grandly open on the 7th and 8th at Yongma Waterfall Park, a representative landmark of Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi).
Held annually every October since 2016 at Yongma Waterfall Park, which features the 51.4m tallest artificial waterfall in East Asia and beautiful nighttime lighting, the “Yongma Waterfall Culture and Arts Festival” has established itself as Jungnang-gu’s signature autumn cultural and arts festival, attracting over 30,000 visitors each year.
The Jungnang Cultural Foundation announced that it has adopted last year’s festival theme, “You are the Star of Jungnang, Go on the stage,” as the main slogan starting this year, aiming to make 2023 a new leap forward in creating a unique brand for the festival.
For efficient space utilization and safe operation, the 2023 Yongma Waterfall Culture and Arts Festival venue is divided into four sections: ▲Culture Yard ▲Sharing Yard ▲Community Yard ▲Arts Yard. Each yard will host various cultural and artistic contents tailored to the characteristics of the programs, enhancing accessibility.
First, at the Culture Yard, where the artificial waterfall is located, diverse events will be held starting on the 7th. The “Jungnang Talent Contest,” a talent competition for Jungnang residents, the “Popple” fashion show, a joint brand of Jungnang-gu fashion sewing, and a performance by popular singer Park Hyun-bin will color the autumn at Yongma Waterfall Park.
On the 8th, the festival will feature the “1st Kang So-cheon Children’s Song Festival,” showcasing the clear voices of Jungnang’s children; “Meoshi Ggeokjeong-inga” by Kim Churi, the goddess of Pumba; the play “Mangwoo Yeoljeon Cha Jung-rak Gayoje,” themed on Cha Jung-rak, known as Korea’s Elvis Presley, who rests at Mangwoo History and Culture Park; and a performance by the legendary Korean rock band “Kim Jong-seo Band,” currently appearing on MBN’s “Fire Band,” brilliantly concluding the festival.
At the Sharing Yard, set up on the soccer field within Yongma Waterfall Park, events such as the “Sharing Festival” with children, the “Imagination Art Kids Show,” “Rose Bookshelf” to promote reading in Jungnang-gu, and the “Jungnang History Quiz” hosted by the Jungnang Cultural Center will take place, along with spaces where children can play and enjoy themselves.
The Community Yard will feature the Jungnang Fashion Festa and various food trucks offering diverse food options. The Arts Yard will host poetry and painting exhibitions, photo exhibitions, and artwork displays by Jungnang-gu art groups, filling Yongma Waterfall Park with the fragrance of art and culture.
Yu Kyung-ae, CEO of the Jungnang Cultural Foundation, said, “We hope everyone enjoys precious moments of happiness with their families at the 2023 Yongma Waterfall Culture and Arts Festival, where various cultural and artistic programs unfold at Yongma Waterfall Park.”
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “We ask for your great interest and love for the Yongma Waterfall Culture and Arts Festival, Jungnang-gu’s representative autumn festival where culture, art, and music come together.”
