SK Inc. C&C Invests in Carbon Data Management Startup 'Glassdom'
SK㈜ C&C announced on the 5th that it has made a new investment in Glassdome, a startup specializing in supply chain product carbon emissions management solutions. The investment amount and equity ratio were not disclosed by mutual agreement between the two companies.
Glassdome was founded in 2019 in San Francisco, USA. It is a solution company with strengths in IoT-based process measurement data collection and management, and carbon data management based on product life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology.
This investment was made as part of SK㈜ C&C's initiative since early this year to expand domestic and international digital IT service businesses through discovering, nurturing, and investing in global promising B2B technology startups.
Both companies plan to accelerate the expansion of digital net-zero services into domestic and overseas markets. To respond to the carbon regulations centered on the European Union (EU), which will be gradually mandated from 2024, they aim to secure market leadership with an LCA-based product carbon emissions management solution.
To this end, SK㈜ C&C has been collaborating with Glassdome since May to develop a 'Digital Net-Zero Platform' that supports efficient carbon data management in line with global carbon emission regulation trends. In September, the service was launched under the name 'Digital Carbon Passport.' Using this platform, carbon emission data, including Scope 3 supply chains, can be efficiently managed based on actual process data.
They are also jointly promoting the development of smart factory businesses based on digital twins targeting small and medium-sized manufacturing plants. The two companies provide an IoT-based cloud Software as a Service (SaaS) solution that integrates and analyzes various process data collected easily from production sites using a plug-and-play method. Glassdome supplies differentiated digital twin solutions to improve production process efficiency and quality for major production lines of domestic food and pharmaceutical companies.
Jinki Ham, CEO of Glassdome, said, "Glassdome has solved the difficulties of integrated management of LCA supply chain carbon emissions faced by global large and small-to-medium enterprises with advanced digital technology based on real data." He added, "We will focus on early market leadership domestically and internationally together with SK㈜ C&C, which possesses digital net-zero technology."
