[Asian Games] Sports Climbing Speed Relay, Men and Women Both Win 'Bronze Medal'
The national sports climbing team won bronze medals in both the men's and women's speed relay events.
On the 4th, at the Keqiao Yangshan Climbing Center in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, China, the Korean women's speed relay team composed of Choi Nau (Family Mountaineering Club), Jung Jimin (The North Face Climbing Team), and Noh Heeju (Family Mountaineering Club) recorded a time of 26.901 seconds to secure 3rd place, beating Kazakhstan (27.998 seconds) in the bronze medal match of the Hangzhou Asian Games sports climbing women's speed relay.
The men's speed team also took 3rd place with a time of 17.827 seconds in the bronze medal match against Singapore. The Korean team, consisting of Jung Yongjun (Daegu City Sports Council), Lee Seungbeom (Central Gyeongnam Climbing), and Lee Yongsoo (Ohyeon High School Alumni Association), comfortably defeated Singapore (23.169 seconds) to claim the bronze medal.
The speed relay is conducted on two 15-meter-high climbing walls. The first climber completes the left wall and presses a button, which signals the second climber to start on the right wall, and the third climber then starts again on the left wall.
After the match, Noh Heeju said in an interview, "I really can't believe it. I believed that if we trusted each other, we could accomplish anything. Our trust in each other created this result." Jung Yongjun said, "I'm happy to finish the competition with a bronze medal. The relay is more intense and fun than the individual event. I trusted my teammates."
Sports climbing became an official event at the Asian Games in the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games. At that time, Korea won one gold medal (men's combined, Cheon Jongwon), one silver medal (women's combined, Sa Sol), and one bronze medal (women's combined, Kim Ja-in).

However, no medals were won in the speed events at the Jakarta-Palembang Games. In this competition as well, Korea failed to win medals in the men's and women's individual speed events. Nevertheless, they eased their disappointment by winning bronze medals in the relay events.
