Sollus Advanced Materials Supplies Ultra-Thin Semiconductor Material to SK Hynix for the First Time in Korea
From Material to Product Approval Acquisition
Solus Advanced Materials announced on the 25th that it will supply ultra-thin foils for semiconductors to SK Hynix for the first time in Korea.
Solus Advanced Materials recently received approval from SK Hynix for its ultra-thin foil applied to memory semiconductor products. The ultra-thin foil from Solus Advanced Materials used in SK Hynix memory semiconductors is a key material that can be applied to the MSAP (Modified Semi-Additive Process), a fine circuit manufacturing method, enabling semiconductor miniaturization, integration, and high performance.
Ultra-thin foil refers to copper foil made extremely thin at 2㎛ (micrometers), which is about 1/50 the thickness of a human hair. It must be very thin while having low and uniform surface roughness, making it a manufacturing group with a high technological entry barrier. For this reason, the market has been monopolized by Japanese companies until now, but it is very significant that Solus Advanced Materials is the first Korean company to receive approval for ultra-thin foil products from SK Hynix.

VES, boasting over 60 years of long-standing expertise, holds more than 60% of the global market share for high-end copper foil products such as low-loss and high-frequency types. It has mass production facilities for ultra-thin foils below 1.5㎛ and provides world-class customized copper foil through various surface treatments and plating process optimizations according to applications.
Solus Advanced Materials supplies ultra-thin foil products not only to SK Hynix but also to other global customers. Since May, it has started mass production of ultra-thin foils used in non-memory semiconductors for global customers, and is actively conducting sample tests based on requests from customers in various industries.
Seo Gwang-byeok, CEO of Solus Advanced Materials, said, “It is very encouraging that we have achieved product approval from SK Hynix, a leading memory semiconductor company, as the first Korean company,” and added, “Mass production is scheduled to be in full swing from 2024, and we will once again prove our technological capabilities by providing the best products.”
