Competition for 6.1 Billion Won... Real-Life 'Ojingeo Game' Premieres in November
Netflix "The Biggest Prize in Reality History"
A reality show inspired by the globally successful Netflix drama 'Squid Game' will be released this November.
On the 22nd (local time), Netflix announced on its website that the reality show 'Squid Game: The Challenge' will be released on November 22.
The reality version does not involve life-or-death battles. Netflix explained, "456 participants will compete for the largest prize in reality TV history, $4.56 million (approximately 6.1 billion KRW)." "In a series of games, participants will ask themselves how far they are willing to go to win, including opportunistic alliances, ruthless strategies, and timely betrayals."
In the trailer, one participant says, "$4.56 million? People do much worse things for much less money." 'Squid Game: The Challenge' consists of 10 episodes. It was produced by Studio Lambert, the creators of the popular American game show 'The Traitors.'
Released in 2021, 'Squid Game' broke Netflix records by ranking number one in 97 countries immediately after its release. At the 74th Emmy Awards held last year in Los Angeles (LA), California, USA, it won six awards including Best Director and Best Actor.
Production of Season 2, set to be released next year, is also underway. The cast includes Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Won Ji-an, Lee Jin-wook, Lee Da-wit, Noh Jae-won, Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun.
