Haenam-gun, Successful Abalone Buying Campaign with Residents Together
'Let's Protect Our Seafood' Continues to Receive County Residents' Participation
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, successfully concluded an abalone consumption promotion campaign aimed at supporting abalone farming households struggling with decreased seafood consumption and price drops.
According to the county on the 18th, the "Buy Ttangkkeut Haenam Abalone" event held for a week since the end of last month achieved sales of approximately 1.5 tons.
The event saw about 900 participants, including county officials, related organizations, social groups, and individual residents, purchase abalone through the campaign, providing support to the farming households.

The Haenam-gun Abalone Association supplied abalone at significantly discounted prices compared to usual, and county officials assisted busy farmers by handling consumer orders and shipping tasks, receiving positive responses.
Pre-ordered abalone was delivered sequentially on requested dates via courier or distributed directly to consumers at Haenam Daily Market.
In particular, on the 15th, the Daily Market hosted an "Abalone Eating Day" night market event. Consumers could pick up abalone purchased through the campaign on-site, and an additional 100 boxes were sold directly at the event.
With cooperation from the Daily Market Merchants Association, customers who presented receipts showing purchases of 20,000 KRW or more at the market on the day received a 5,000 KRW discount, allowing them to buy 1 kg of 11 to 12 abalones for 25,000 KRW. The event was met with great enthusiasm and sold out early.
Additionally, the Haenam-gun Abalone Association and the Daily Market Merchants Association collaborated to sell abalone mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) at affordable prices at the night market. Night market vendors also showcased dishes and snacks made with abalone, creating a lively venue for promoting abalone consumption among many residents.
Meanwhile, Haenam-gun has been actively promoting the distribution and consumption of local seafood since establishing a seafood distribution activation plan in April. Following recent discussions with Gyeonggi Province on seafood promotion strategies, the county is also pursuing abalone sales linked with Anyang City in Gyeonggi Province.
