Government Launches Advisory Panel for 2025 Population and Housing Census
The government has launched an advisory group for the 2025 Population and Housing Census.
On the 18th, Statistics Korea announced the formation of the "2025 Population and Housing Census 1st Advisory Committee" to ensure the successful implementation of the census. The advisory committee is chaired by Professor Cho Sung-gyeom of Chungnam National University and consists of 32 experts from various fields including academia and research institutions.
The Population and Housing Census is a survey designed to understand the size and characteristics of the population, households, and housing in South Korea. Basic items are surveyed annually through a registered census method, while characteristic items are surveyed every five years (in years ending with 0 and 5) through a sample survey covering 20% of households nationwide.
Basic items include relationship to the head of household, gender, age, nationality, type of residence, year of construction, and total residential floor area. Special items surveyed for sample households include education, marital status, activity limitations and caregiving, commuting and schooling, economic activity status, and type of occupancy.
The 2025 Population and Housing Census is significant as the first census conducted after COVID-19. Marking 100 years of census history, it aims to serve as a foundation for designing the future of South Korea for the next 100 years.
