Jeonnam Province Selects 3 'Disability-Friendly Health Screening Institutions'... The Most Nationwide

Jeonnam Province announced on the 17th that Mokpo City Medical Center, Gangjin Medical Center, and Jangheung Integrated Medical Hospital have been selected as ‘2023 Disability-Friendly Health Screening Institutions’ by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
Including Suncheon Medical Center, which was designated last year, this is the highest number nationwide, bringing the total number of disability-friendly health screening institutions in the province to four.
Until now, people with disabilities have faced relatively lower accessibility to medical institutions and difficulties in early treatment and preventive health care, resulting in health disparities compared to non-disabled individuals. To alleviate this, disability-friendly screening institutions have been designated and operated.
When selected as a disability-friendly health screening institution, support is provided to equip auxiliary personnel, facilities, and equipment so that people with disabilities can receive screenings safely and conveniently. Additionally, when making reservations or registering on-site, companion services, availability of informational materials, and visual and auditory guidance systems are established.
The province plans to support the selected medical institutions with costs for facility and equipment renovations.
Lee Sang-sim, Director of the Health and Welfare Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, “We expect that not only people with disabilities but also elderly and mobility-impaired examinees will be able to receive health screenings safely and conveniently,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that all residents can detect diseases early and have guaranteed access to preventive medical services through health screening institutions.”

Disability-friendly health screening institutions are available to all registered persons with disabilities, and inquiries about health screening guidance and reservations can be made through the medical institutions’ websites or by phone reservation.
