The National Living Culture Festival, which began in 2014, is known as the national sports festival of living culture and is celebrating its 10th edition this year.
This year’s festival, under the slogan "Everyday Empathy, Empathy Day," will share distinctive living cultures from across the country and create a space where not only the 10s to 80s generations but also people with disabilities and marginalized groups can participate together.
Jeon Byeong-geuk, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will attend the opening ceremony on the 15th to encourage 109 living culture clubs gathered from all over the country.
In the "Special Club Pride Contest," 21 teams will participate, including "Maeulieum," which makes Jeju camellia flowers using sock yarn, and "Marimari," which creates animal dolls using discarded toilet paper rolls.
Twenty teams of living culture artisans called "Ppomssi," selected through a public contest, will open a "Living Culture Market" to teach low-salt pickled vegetable making, upcycling crafts, and more through mini talk shows and one-day classes.
At the event site, ▲ at "Youth Square," there will be performances by youth dance clubs, an EDM party, and university band club performances; ▲ at "Harmony Yard," the first-place winner of the 1st Chunhyang Dance Festival, "Hwangjini Dance Troupe," and the "Hwasun-gun Living Culture Center Ganggangsullae Club," with an average age of 68, will perform; ▲ at "Exhibition Empathy," 100 works made by multicultural families and people with disabilities using living culture craft experience kits will be displayed.
Additionally, events such as a board game competition, street painting experience using eco-friendly paper boxes, and tea ceremony experiences at Chokseokru in Jinju, the birthplace of modern tea culture, will continue.
During the festival, the "National Living Culture Exchange Conference" will also be held. Living culture business operators nationwide will share success stories and discuss cooperation plans.
