Kim Jong-un-Putin Summit "We Will Fight Imperialism Together" (Update)
North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin began their summit on the 13th at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Amur Oblast, Russia. Both leaders disclosed only the content of their 9-minute opening remarks before the meeting, stating that the full details of the summit would remain confidential. As the two leaders demonstrated mutual solidarity, attention is focused on the extent to which both sides will strengthen military cooperation during the actual talks.
According to TASS on the 13th, in his opening remarks before the meeting attended by delegations from both countries, Chairman Kim stated, "Relations with Russia are North Korea's top priority," and added, "North Korea will always fight alongside Russia in its struggle against imperialism."
He continued, "North Korea has always supported all decisions made by President Putin and the Russian government," emphasizing, "We want to further develop relations with Russia." He also expressed gratitude for President Putin's invitation and conveyed his appreciation to President Putin, noting that this visit took place at a very important time.
President Putin responded to Kim Jong-un, saying, "I hope that today's talks will cover a wide range of areas including economic cooperation, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and humanitarian issues," and added, "We will assist North Korea in developing satellites, and the reason for choosing the cosmodrome as the venue for this meeting is related to that."

Meanwhile, this summit between Chairman Kim and President Putin was held about four years and five months after their meeting on April 25, 2019, in Vladivostok, Russian Far East. The previous summit lasted approximately three and a half hours, and this meeting is expected to proceed similarly. An official dinner is scheduled to follow the talks.
