Park Hee-young, Yongsan District Mayor, Joint Civil-Government-Police Night Patrol for Crime Prevention
At 9 PM on the 12th, 40 participants including the autonomous crime prevention squad, district office and community center, Yongsan Police Station and Wonhyo District Unit, and Safe Return Scouts expand the crime prevention safety network to eliminate vulnerable night areas in Wonhyoro 1-dong and Cheongpa-dong areas
Park Hee-young, the mayor of Yongsan District, conducted a “civil-government-police joint patrol” for one hour from 9 p.m. on the 12th around Wonhyoro 1-dong and Cheongpa-dong areas to prevent violent crimes and alleviate residents’ anxiety.
The joint patrol involved a total of 40 participants, including the Wonhyoro 1-dong and Cheongpa-dong neighborhood watch groups, officials from the district office and community service centers, police officers from Yongsan Police Station and Wonhyo Police Substation, and the Safe Return Home Scouts. They focused on patrolling residential alleys including the area around Singye History Park and the Safe Return Home path at Sookmyung Women’s University, and also checked the connection between emergency bells and the control center.
Park Hee-young, mayor of Yongsan District, who participated in the patrol that day, said, “I came out to observe the actual effects of the physical and social infrastructure expansion for crime prevention that the district is promoting,” and added, “We will do our best to eliminate vulnerable areas on nighttime streets and prevent crimes with abnormal motives.”
First, the district strengthened patrols focusing on crime-vulnerable areas such as parks, walking trails, and residential alleys. The patrols are conducted jointly with neighborhood watch groups composed of local residents and Yongsan Police Station.
By early November, a total of 213 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be additionally installed at 85 locations, including 19 locations (150 cameras) for crime prevention and 16 locations (63 cameras) for safety management. The 800 “crime prevention CCTV” cameras will be replaced with “intelligent CCTV” over three years. A Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) implementation plan will be established and applied to environmental improvements such as public restrooms and the creation of safe return home paths.
Support for crime-vulnerable groups will also be expanded.
The main contents include 3 Safe Return Home Scout teams (7 members), 22 convenience stores designated as Safe Keeper Houses, 17 Safe Return Home path sections, and support for safety equipment (for single-person households and stalking crime victims).

The district will also build a regional cooperation system for crime response by strengthening civil-government-police cooperation through close collaboration with the Yongsan District Public Safety Council, the Neighborhood Watch Federation, and Yongsan Police Station. As part of support for socially isolated individuals, efforts will be made to restore relationships with isolated and reclusive households, provide cultural welfare support, implement youth mental health projects, and promote sports clubs such as the Yongsan Running Crew.
