Naju-si, Nation's First to Produce 'Cleaning Workers' Safety Handbook'
Naju City in Jeollanam-do has become the first in the nation to produce a safety handbook containing accident and disaster prevention guidelines for sanitation workers and cleaning operators.
According to the city on the 12th, the "Naju City Cleaning Workers' Work Safety Handbook" was distributed to 150 people, including sanitation workers and cleaning vehicle drivers, with the aim of preventing industrial accidents following the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act and the strengthening of the Industrial Safety and Health Act.
The handbook includes contents such as "Status of Accidents among Sanitation Workers," "Cases of Serious Accidents," "Hazardous and Risk Factors and Prevention Measures by Work Type," "Procedures for Responding to Serious Accidents and Step-by-Step Response Measures," and "Self-Safety Inspection Checklist for Household Waste Collection and Transport Vehicles."
It also contains Naju City's serious accident safety and health goals and management policies, the serious accident response system, the "Serious Accident Punishment Act" enacted on January 27, emergency contact lists, and the status of sanitation workers' waiting rooms.
Since the launch of the 8th municipal administration, the city has established strategies such as building a safety and health management system, integrated management for serious accident response, and systematic monitoring under the goal of "Serious Accident Zero! Safe and Healthy Workplace."
Through this, the city is thoroughly establishing manuals for accident prevention, conducting safety and health education, ensuring worker safety and health, facility safety and maintenance, monitoring compliance with obligations for subcontracting, outsourcing, and consignment projects and facility management inspections, and implementing improvement measures based on the results.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae personally signed the "Naju City Safety and Health Management Policy" on August 26 last year and is committed to creating a safe working environment for city employees.
The management policy includes establishing a safety and health management system that prioritizes a safe and pleasant working environment, allocating human and material resources to control hazardous and risk factors in workplaces and facilities, and proactive management through prior prediction of serious accident risks.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, "The safety handbook focuses on preventing greater damage by including proactive management and prior prediction of serious accident risks as well as a systematic response system for each stage after an incident occurs. We will do our best to create a pleasant and safe working environment for city employees."
