Busan 2024 Suneung Applicants 26,740 ... 888 Fewer Than Last Year
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 12th that the number of applicants from Busan for the 2024 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), who applied between August 24 and September 8, decreased by 888 (3.2%) compared to last year, totaling 26,740 applicants.
Among the applicants, 17,798 are prospective graduates, a decrease of 1,748 (8.94%) from last year. The number of graduates increased by 705 (9.86%) to 7,855, and the number of qualification exam takers increased by 155 (16.63%) to 1,087.
The 2024 CSAT Korean and Mathematics sections will be conducted with a ‘common subject + elective subject’ structure. Among the Korean section test takers, 16,557 (62.33%) chose the elective subject ‘Speech and Writing,’ and 10,007 (37.67%) chose ‘Language and Media.’
In the Mathematics section, among the test takers, 11,407 (44.93%) chose ‘Probability and Statistics,’ 13,047 (51.38%) chose ‘Calculus,’ and 937 (3.69%) chose ‘Geometry.’
In the Inquiry section, test takers can choose up to two subjects regardless of their track. Those who chose only social inquiry subjects numbered 12,639 (48.31%), those who chose only science inquiry subjects numbered 12,835 (49.06%), and those who combined both areas numbered 557 (2.13%).
Most examinees appear to have applied to take two subjects.
Regarding the major subject choices in the Inquiry section, the most popular social inquiry subjects were Life and Ethics, Society and Culture, Ethics and Thought, and Korean Geography, in that order. For science inquiry, the most chosen subjects were Biology I, Earth Science I, Chemistry I, and Physics I, respectively.
Additionally, the number of test takers for Vocational Inquiry decreased by 55 (29.26%) from last year to 133. The number of applicants for the Second Foreign Language increased by 182 (4.87%) to 2,915 from 2,733 last year.

Busan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to begin full-scale CSAT operations such as assigning test centers and issuing examinee numbers starting mid-September, once the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation finalizes the list of test takers.
