"No Radiation Level Issues in Rockfish and Sea Squirt"...Officials Eat 'Seafood Lunch' Weekly
Seafood Lunch Every Wednesday for a Month
Menu Available at 17 Government Office Cafeterias
Office Management Headquarters "Expected Consumption of 3 Tons in a Month"
From the 13th of this month, public officials will have seafood menu lunches every Wednesday for a month.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Government Complex Management Headquarters announced that it will hold the event
An announcement is posted on the 12th at the government Seoul office cafeteria in Jongno-gu, Seoul, one day before the event "Wednesday is the day to eat our seafood." This event, held every Wednesday for a month starting from the 13th, was organized to support the seafood industry, which has been stagnated due to the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, and to promote the consumption of domestic seafood.

This 'Seafood on Wednesday Lunch' event was prepared by the government itself as a countermeasure amid various rumors about the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, despite the recent government announcement that "radioactive substances are below the standard level." Furthermore, it is interpreted as an effort to help the recently stagnant fisheries industry and encourage domestic seafood consumption.
The seafood scheduled to be served every Wednesday lunch will mainly consist of popular items among the public such as rockfish, sea squirts, abalone, blue crabs, eel, and mackerel.
The seafood has been tested for radioactivity by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in cooperation with the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and local governments, and has been certified as suitable. These are the same items as the general seafood distributed in the market.

At the four public institution complexes where this event is held, a total of 74 institutions, including affiliated organizations, employ about 35,000 staff members. With an average daily lunch attendance exceeding 7,000 people, approximately 3 tons of domestic seafood can be consumed during the event period.
Choi Hoon, head of the Government Complex Management Headquarters, said, "Through this event, I hope it becomes an opportunity for residents and our citizens to safely enjoy our seafood and that it helps the fisheries industry."
