The LINC 3.0 Project Group at Kyungsung University achieved excellent results by winning the grand prize and two gold awards at the 1st Global Capstone Design Competition (ASCC 2023) held on the 9th at KX (KMUTT Knowledge Exchange for Innovation Center) in Bangkok, Thailand.

ASCC 2023 was co-hosted by nine universities including Kyungsung University, Kyungil University, Gwangju University, Kookmin University, Andong National University, Woosuk University from Korea, University of Miyazaki from Japan, University Malaysia Kelantan from Malaysia, and King Mongkut`s University of Technology Thonburi from Thailand.

In addition, universities such as Shenyang University of Technology, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University from China; Tokai Gakuen University, Tokyo Denki University from Japan; BHELOR Institute of Technology from India; Telkom University from Indonesia; Isfahan University of Technology and University of Isfahan from Iran; and University of Dhaka from Bangladesh participated, with a total of over 30 capstone design projects submitted to the finals.

The event was hosted by Dr. Sarizam Bin Mamat from University Malaysia Kelantan, and proceeded in the order of a welcome speech by Seong Yeol-moon, head of the LINC 3.0 Project Group at Kyungsung University and chair of the organizing committee, presentations, Q&A, and awards ceremony.

At Kyungsung University, the Alice Team, which submitted ‘Youth in Wonderland: N,’ won the grand prize in the humanities and social sciences category, while the C.G Team, which submitted ‘Development of a Speed Controller with Autonomous Electric Vehicle Safe Distance Maintenance System,’ and the With S.U Team, which submitted ‘Easy Detachable Auxiliary Electric Towing Wheelchair,’ won gold awards in the engineering category.

To host this international competition, 13 universities from 7 Asian countries formed the ASCC organizing committee through mutual consultation starting in March. They also registered as a subdivision of the Korea IEEE international society, formalizing it as an international operating organization.

In Korea, a domestic preliminary competition was held on August 21, where among 35 projects submitted from about 10 universities nationwide, projects from Kyungsung University, Kyungil University, Gwangju University, Kookmin University, Andong National University, and Woosuk University qualified for the finals.

Seong Yeol-moon, head of the LINC 3.0 Project Group at Kyungsung University, said, “I feel rewarded that the 1st Global Capstone Design Competition was successfully held,” and added, “For ASCC to develop into a competition that leads new eras, environments, and changes, the wholehearted interest and efforts of participating universities are most important.”

He continued, “We will gradually expand the competition from Asian countries to the United States and Europe to share the achievements of capstone design,” and said, “We expect the competition to contribute to enhancing students’ major competencies and problem-solving abilities in the industrial field, discovering new momentum for inter-country cooperation, and raising the brand value.”
