Democratic Party and Gwangju City Collaborate on Regional Development Issues and National Budget Securing Plans
Party-Government Budget Policy Council Meeting Held
The Gwangju Metropolitan City Party Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 10th that it will hold a party-government budget policy consultation meeting at 3 p.m. on the 11th in the medium conference room of Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall to discuss major local issues and propose national budget support projects.
Attendees include Lee Byung-hoon, chairman of the Democratic Party’s Gwangju City Committee; Park Kwang-on, floor leader; Song Gap-seok, Supreme Council member; Kim Min-seok, chairman of the Policy Committee; Seo Sam-seok, chairman of the Budget and Accounts Committee; Yang Seung-jo, chairman of the Committee for Good Local Governments; local members of the National Assembly; Jeong Moon-seong, acting chairman of the Seo-gu Eul district committee; and Lee Gwi-soon, vice chairman of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council.
From the Gwangju city government, Mayor Kang Gi-jung, Deputy Mayor Moon Young-hoon, Vice Mayor for Culture and Economy Kim Kwang-jin, and Director of Planning and Coordination Bae Il-kwon will attend, along with key department heads.
The budget policy consultation meeting will discuss major pending projects including ▲ legal amendments and national budget support for establishing the GIST-affiliated AI gifted high school ▲ enactment of a special law within the year for the construction of the Dalbit high-speed railway ▲ cooperation in promoting constitutional amendment to include the spirit of May 18 and democratic values in the preamble ▲ exemption from preliminary feasibility study for the National AI Innovation Hub Project (AI Phase 2).
In particular, the Democratic Party plans to actively incorporate the national budget support requests proposed by Gwangju city and make every effort to secure national funds considering the financial difficulties faced by local governments.

Chairman Lee Byung-hoon (member of the National Assembly for Dong-gu Nam-gu Eul) stated, “The local tax collection performance has sharply declined, putting Gwangju’s financial situation in a difficult state. We will lay the foundation for Gwangju’s development based on the discussions held at the party-government budget policy consultation meeting.”
