A Man in His 50s Arrested for Stealing Valuables from Another Vehicle While Driving a Stolen Car
A man in his 50s, who repeatedly committed so-called car break-ins using stolen vehicles, was arrested on charges of habitual theft.
According to the Changwon Seobu Police Station in Gyeongnam on the 7th, Mr. A is accused of stealing valuables from parked cars in the Daesan-myeon area of Uichang-gu, Changwon City, from August 2 to September 1.
Mr. A targeted cars with unlocked doors late at night and stole cash and precious metals worth about 40 million won.
He focused on the fact that if a car’s side mirror was extended, the car door was not locked, and targeted those vehicles.
For each crime, he stole a compact car parked in a residential area in Palyong-dong, Uichang-gu, drove it to Daesan-myeon, and committed theft.
The vehicle was parked in the same place every time with the car key left inside and the door open, which was revealed to have been used by Mr. A for his crimes.

View original imageIn the early morning of the 1st, around 2 a.m., Mr. A was caught by the car owner while stealing valuables inside a vehicle in the yard of a farm in Daesan-myeon. He then stole a nearby 1-ton truck and fled the scene.
He escaped to near the Seomasan Nadeulmok (IC) in Hoeseong-dong, Masanhwoin-gu, abandoned the truck by the roadside, and ran away.
The police, who received the report, conducted investigations including CCTV footage review and inquiries, and arrested Mr. A near Bongnim Market in Bonggok-dong, Uichang-gu, at 1:05 p.m. on the 2nd.
During the police investigation, it was found that Mr. A lived mainly in containers without a fixed residence and used the stolen valuables mainly for meals and PC bang fees.
He reportedly stated, “I committed the crimes to make living expenses.”
