President Yoon Suk-yeol mentioned the 'Korea-ASEAN Solidarity Initiative' (KASI) at the Korea-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Summit on the 6th, explaining the mutually beneficial development based on "ASEAN centrality and South Korea's firm support for ASEAN's perspective on the Indo-Pacific."
President Yoon made this remark during his opening address at the Korea-ASEAN Summit held at the Jakarta Convention Center that morning.
He continued, "Following the U.S. Camp David Summit last August, a new era of Korea-U.S.-Japan cooperation has begun," and introduced, "The three countries of Korea, the U.S., and Japan have agreed to coordinate their Indo-Pacific strategies based on full support for the ASEAN-led regional architecture and to explore new areas of cooperation."
This can be interpreted as a commitment by the three countries?Korea, the U.S., and Japan?to cooperate in supporting ASEAN countries' preferred development methods, blocking the negative effects of ASEAN development caused by China's past approach of concentrating capital to dominate local markets.
In particular, he proposed, "To this end, we have launched the annual Korea-U.S.-Japan Indo-Pacific Dialogue and newly established the Korea-U.S.-Japan Maritime Security Cooperation Framework to support the maritime security capabilities of ASEAN and Pacific island countries," urging, "Let us move forward together toward the shared prosperity of Korea and ASEAN."
President Yoon also appealed for support in hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo. He proposed, "We aim to provide a platform to jointly seek solutions to the challenges facing humanity," and added, "South Korea, a country that rose from the ruins of war to become a developed nation in just half a century, wishes to share our development experience with many maritime countries including ASEAN through the 2030 Busan Expo."
