Improvement in 74 out of 79 Areas with Poor 5G·LTE Communication Quality
LGU+ LTE Performance Lacking in 5 Areas... SKT and KT Show Improvement
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced the results of a re-inspection on whether quality improvements were made in 79 areas (sections) identified as having poor quality in the 2022 telecommunications service quality evaluation. It was reported that quality improved in all 20 areas for 5G and in 54 out of 59 areas for LTE.
The areas (sections) still confirmed to have poor quality were mainly concentrated in LTE services along transportation infrastructure. By operator, SK Telecom improved all 6 out of 6 poor quality areas (sections), KT improved all 15 out of 15 poor quality areas (sections), and LG Uplus improved 50 out of 55 areas (sections), with 5 areas remaining unimproved. These include Seoul Metropolitan Subway Line 2 between Hongdaeipgu and Sindorim, Line 3 between Sinsa and Yaksu, Bulgwang and Samsong, Line 4 between Ansan and Handaeap, and the KTX Gyeongbu Line between Gwangmyeong and Cheonan-Asan.
For 5G services, quality improved in all 20 areas (sections) previously identified as poor quality. By operator, SKT had 2 poor quality areas, KT had 12, and LG Uplus had 9, all of which were improved upon re-inspection.

Kim Kyung-man, Director of Telecommunications Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, “While 5G services appear to have made efforts to improve quality by addressing all poor quality areas, it is very regrettable that some LTE areas remain unimproved. The 5 areas confirmed as unimproved will be re-examined in the second half telecommunications service quality evaluation to continuously encourage quality improvements.”
