GS Engineering & Construction announced on the 4th that it showcased the Smart Cottage together with LG Electronics at ‘IFA 2023,’ Europe’s largest home appliance exhibition currently underway in Berlin, Germany since the 1st.
The Smart Cottage is a new-concept home appliance and space hybrid product developed through collaboration between GS Engineering & Construction and LG Electronics since May. It combines GS Engineering & Construction’s modular expertise with LG Electronics’ premium home appliances, energy, HVAC, and smart home technologies.
The European-style Smart Cottage exhibited at IFA 2023 features modular joint technology developed in-house by GS Engineering & Construction. Danwood’s modular manufacturing technology will also be applied. Utilizing the spatial creation and configuration capabilities demonstrated by the domestic modular subsidiary Zygeist, the compact house of approximately 33㎡ secures ample spatial comfort. Additionally, various premium home appliances controlled via LG Electronics’ Internet of Things (IoT), such as the Objet Collection Wash Tower Compact, dishwasher, induction electric range, and water purifier, maximize the value of the space.

Furthermore, the Danwood NEXT model (a newly developed modular product line) meeting Germany’s thermal efficiency standards incorporates steel-wood hybrid modular manufacturing technology. LG Electronics’ leading energy and HVAC technology, including a heat pump heating and cooling system, a 4-kilowatt (kW) solar panel, and an ESS energy storage system, are applied to present a European-style Smart Cottage product called the ‘Net Zero House.’
Danwood, a Polish advanced wooden modular specialist acquired by GS Engineering & Construction in 2020, started in Poland in 1972 and has been engaged in the modular housing business for over 30 years. It holds a particularly high market share in Germany, one of Europe’s largest markets. Leveraging the development of this European-style Smart Cottage product, Danwood plans to target various markets across Europe.

Huh Yoonhong, Head of Future Innovation at GS Engineering & Construction, said, “It is meaningful that the Smart Cottage, a new-concept home appliance and space hybrid product integrating GS Engineering & Construction and LG Electronics’ high-efficiency energy technologies, is being introduced first in Germany, Danwood’s largest core market. Both companies will continue to cooperate to introduce such innovative residential products domestically as well.”
