Ministry of Unification: "Yoon Mi-hyang Failed to Report Attendance at Chongryon Event... Considering Imposing a Fine"
Independent lawmaker Yoon Mi-hyang's attendance at the "Kanto Earthquake Korean Massacre Memorial Ceremony" hosted by the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) may result in a fine from the Ministry of Unification, the ministry announced on the 3rd.
The Ministry of Unification stated in a press release that Lawmaker Yoon did not file a prior contact report.
According to the Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Act, prior contact reporting and approval are required to engage with Chongryon members, and violations of this rule are subject to fines for unreported contact.
It is known that no post-contact report has been submitted so far, but the ministry's position is that Yoon's case is "difficult to consider as a subject for post-contact reporting under the Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Act."
The Ministry of Unification added, "We will confirm the facts through a request for a written explanation, and thereafter, procedures such as imposing fines may proceed."
