Signing of Sister City Agreement, Promoting Exchange and Cooperation in Various Fields Including Economy, Tourism, Culture, and Education
Busan City is set to engage in practical exchange and cooperation with Samarkand City, a representative ancient city and the number one tourist city in Central Asia.
On August 29 at 9:30 a.m. local time, Busan City will sign a sister city cooperation agreement with Samarkand City, Uzbekistan, at the Youth Center in Samarkand City, Uzbekistan.
At the signing ceremony, Lee Seong-gwon, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, and Fazliddin Umarov, Mayor of Samarkand City, are scheduled to sign the agreement in person.
Samarkand City, Uzbekistan, is located midway on the Silk Road between the Western Regions and China, and is designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site due to its numerous historical and cultural relics.
As the capital of Samarkand Province and the second largest city in Uzbekistan, it is a city rich in history and tourism.
This agreement was prepared after Busan recognized the potential and importance of the Central Asian region and sought new relationships with Central Asian cities, initiated by a proposal from the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Korea in 2022.
Through the 'Eurasian Citizen Expedition' that departed on the 22nd, Busan will directly visit Samarkand City to sign the sister city cooperation agreement.
Once the sister city cooperation agreement is signed, both cities plan to promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields including ▲economy ▲tourism ▲culture ▲education.
Additionally, taking this sister city cooperation agreement with Samarkand City as an opportunity, at 10:30 a.m. local time on the same day, the Busan-Central Asia Economic Cooperation Forum will be held at the Hilton Inn Samarkand, organized by the Busan Economic Promotion Agency (Director Jin Yang-hyun), to open the first channel for economic exchange and cooperation between the two cities.
