Jeongeup-si Selected for 'New Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project' Competition
Jeongeup-si, Jeonbuk, has been selected as a project site in the public evaluation of the ‘2024 New Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, securing 980 million KRW in national funding.
According to the city on the 25th, the New Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project involves installing facilities using one or more types of new renewable energy sources such as solar power, solar heat, and geothermal energy in houses and buildings in certain areas to supply electricity and heat.
The city has been selected for this public project hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for four consecutive years since 2021.
In 2024, a total project cost of 2.18 billion KRW will be invested in six neighborhoods (Suseong, Jangmyeong, Naejangsang, Sigi, Chosan, Yeonji) to install 259 solar power facilities with a capacity of 777 kW, 10 solar heat facilities covering 136㎡, and 8 geothermal facilities with 140 kW capacity.
Mayor Lee Hak-su said, “With this project selection, we plan to contribute to reducing energy costs for local residents,” adding, “Through the continuous expansion of new renewable energy supply for four consecutive years, we will strengthen the foundation for energy self-reliance and practice eco-friendly carbon neutrality by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”
Meanwhile, through the New Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project implemented so far, the city has installed solar power facilities in 827 households with a total capacity of 2,481 kW.
As a result, the 3 kW solar power generation facilities in general households have led to an electricity bill reduction effect of about 40,000 to 50,000 KRW per month depending on household electricity usage.
This year, the city is also promoting the 2023 New Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project with a total project cost of 3.1 billion KRW, installing 386 solar power facilities with 1,158 kW, 30 solar heat facilities covering 306㎡, and 15 geothermal facilities with 262.5 kW capacity.
