New Walking Course in Yeongdeungpo-gu Adds Anyangcheon and Dorimcheon
Operating 7 Courses… Explore Yeongdeungpo’s History, Culture, and Tourist Attractions with a Tour Guide
Offering Excellent Walking Tours through Scenario Development and Professional Guide Training
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) is introducing new courses for the ‘Yeongdeungpo Walking Tour,’ allowing visitors to fully enjoy the history, culture, tourist attractions, and beautiful waterfront areas.
The ‘Yeongdeungpo Walking Tour’ is a program where participants walk around various parts of Yeongdeungpo with a tour guide and listen to stories behind tourist spots such as parks and alleys that were previously overlooked.
The district developed two new courses linked to the cultural and tourism resources around Anyangcheon and Dorimcheon streams. These new courses are expected to awaken the cultural value and potential of Yeongdeungpo’s waterfront areas and generate continuous tourism demand.
Starting in September, two new courses, ▲Anyangcheon Waterway and ▲Dorimcheon Waterway, will be added to the existing five tourist courses: ▲Yeongdeungpo Modern and Contemporary History, ▲Mullae Creative Village, ▲Yeouido Story, ▲Han River Waterway, and ▲Seonyudo Park.
The Anyangcheon Waterway course, themed ‘Wind Path Forest Flowing Along the River,’ follows the route ‘Lotte Confectionery, Korean Independence Movement Protest Site → Anyangcheon → Eoseom → Riverside Observatory → Ecological Protection Area → Anyangcheon Cherry Blossom Path → Yangpyeong Bridge Overpass → Yangpyeong Station.’ The course features the Seonyudo Station intersection where the independence movement echoed, a confectionery factory bearing traces of industrialization, diverse flora and fauna of Anyangcheon, and a beautiful waterfront ecological circulation path. The Anyangcheon Waterway course covers a total of 3.1 km and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The Dorimcheon Waterway course, themed ‘Cultural Diversity Blossoming at the Stream,’ connects ‘Sindorim Station → Dorimcheon → Ecological Park & Daerim Library → Ecological Stream Restoration → Daerim Station (Stream) → Daerim Station → Daerim Central Market → Children’s Park’ along Dorimcheon. Participants can explore an ecological park created by covering a retention basin, various flora and fauna of Dorimcheon, and Daerim Central Market, known as a small Chinatown in Korea. Especially, the ongoing ecological stream restoration and the multicultural hub of Daerim-dong make the walking tour uniquely distinctive. The Dorimcheon Waterway course covers a total of 2.4 km and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Along with developing the new courses, the district produced tour guide scenarios and conducted professional training to enhance the capabilities of tour guides. They also focus on promoting the walking tours through leaflets and short-form video postings.
